The Population Aging and Urban Innovation in China:Its Theoretical Logic and Chinese Experience

摘要: 当前我国正处于人口老龄化程度不断加深的阶段,如何有效应对人口老龄化对城市创新所造成的影响已成为推进我国高质量发展进程中迫切需要解决的问题。本文分析了人口老龄化影响城市创新的理论机制,采用全国人口普查数据和人口抽样调查数据实证检验了人口老龄化对城市创新的影响。研究发现,人口老龄化程度的加深会显著抑制城市的创新能力,并且这一效应在中西部地区城市和经济发展水平较低的城市表现得尤为明显,其主要原因在于人口老龄化通过技术抑制效应和要素成本效应对城市创新产生影响。本文的研究结论对推动高水平城市创新和积极应对人口老龄化的政策协同具有一定借鉴意义。

Abstract: At present,China is in the stage of deepening population aging,and how to effectively deal with the impact of population aging on urban innovation has become an urgent problem to be solved in the process of promoting the high-quality development of China's economy.This paper analyzes the theoretical mechanism of population aging affecting urban innovation,and empirically examines the impact of population aging on urban innovation using national census data and population sample survey data.It is found that the deepening of population aging significantly inhibits urban innovation capacity,and this effect is particularly obvious in the cities in central and western regions and in the cities with lower levels of economic development,mainly because population aging affects urban innovation through the technology inhibition effect and the factor cost effect.The conclusions of this paper have implications for the promotion of high-level urban innovation and the synergy of policies to actively deal with population aging.
