Abstract: In the sense of hermeneutics,“expression” and “performance” have their own functions and orientations, and their purposes and methods differ. In the sense of epistemology, each has its own positioning and path with a clear relationship and evolutionary trajectory.“Expression” adheres to the true nature and original meaning of things, and its process of speech is governed by objective constraints, while based on the original meaning,“performance” delves into the performers' intentions, with its actions aimed at subjective intentions.“Expression” is in harmony with elucidation, revealing the objective original meaning of the object.“Performance” is in harmony with elaboration, upholding the subjective intention of performers. As the unification of the process and purpose,“performance” begins with expression and leads to something performed, with the outcome and success lying in the performance.Expression and performance,as well as interpretation and elaboration, they interact and support each other, realizing their own infinite cycle.
Key words: Chinese hermeneutics, expression, performance, elucidation, elaboration
