Abstract: Kierkegaard's thought contains an argument for the individuality of human survival. An individual is unique because his survival contains the moment. The moment transcends time.It is unrestricted by any possibility and richer than any change within time. The moment is impossibility and infinite difference. It means that the possibility of survival is always already open to impossibility. The individuality of an individual suggests that the highest achievement of human survival lies not in maximizing certain possibilities to achieve “unity” and “oneness” but in imbuing the world with multiple meaning amidst danger.

Key words: survival, individuality, the moment, impossibility, Kierkegaard
