Abstract: When it comes to coparenting in the families with a second child, there are differences in relation to the birth order of their children. The quality of coparenting for the firstborn typically falls and then rises after the birth of a second child, and there is a high correlation between the coparenting of a second child and that of the firstborn, which confirms that coparenting is directed towards specific children and that there exists the interaction between family sub-systems. In terms of the influencing factors of coparenting, children with difficult temperament play a risky role, and the gender-role belief of parents and their marital quality are all related to the coparenting in the “families with a second child”. In the future, based on the model of influences on coparenting in “families with a second child”,attention should be paid to the role that the excessive interval between successive births caused by birth policy is playing in coparenting, and the paternal role in coparenting should be given proper consideration from the viewpoint of evolutionary psychology, and the impacts of other relationship systems, such as parent-child attachment, sibling relationships and social support, should be examined on coparenting as well.

Key words: coparenting, families with a second child, child temperament, gender-role belief, marital quality
